...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 145 PM EDT THIS
AFTERNOON FOR SOUTHWESTERN BRISTOL MA, BRISTOL RI, KENT, NEWPORT,
SOUTHERN PROVIDENCE AND NORTHEASTERN WASHINGTON COUNTIES...

At 1222 PM EDT, Doppler radar and rain gauges indicated thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 3.5 inches
of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1
hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in
the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar and rain gauges.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Providence, Fall River, Warwick, Cranston, East Providence,
Coventry, Dartmouth, North Providence, South Kingstown, West
Warwick, Johnston, North Kingstown, Newport, Bristol, Somerset,
Portsmouth, Barrington, Middletown, Narragansett and Swansea.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM EDT EARLY THIS MORNING
THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts.

* WHEN...From 5 AM EDT early this morning through this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of low-lying and
flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and
urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Showers and a few embedded thunderstorms with localized narrow
bands of torrential rainfall overspread the region this morning.
Widespread rainfall amounts of 0.50 to 2 inches are expected.
However...localized narrow bands of 2-4" of rain are possible
within a 3 hour period. While it remains uncertain if these
narrow bands of heavier rain occur...the potential exists for
localized flash flooding...especially if it were to occur over a
vulnerable urban center.
