...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CDT THIS MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...In Wisconsin, Ashland and Bayfield Counties. * WHEN...Until 900 AM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Minor flooding of small creeks, streams, and rivers. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 459 AM CDT Tuesday, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Ashland, Washburn, Iron River, Barksdale, Oulu, Bayfield, Port Wing, La Pointe, Cornucopia, Apostle Island Sea Caves, Ino, Sand Bay, Herbster, Sand Island, Red Cliff, York Island, Odanah, Madeline Island, Big Bay State Park and Oak Island. - Flood safety information can be found at www.weather.gov/safety/flood. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads in hilly terrain. Find an alternate route. Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and to the National Weather Service in Duluth when you can do so safely.
