...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON... ...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 2 AM EDT WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. For the Coastal Flood Warning, one to three feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...Surry, James City, and Isle of Wight Counties...in addition to the Cities of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and Suffolk. * WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 2 PM EDT this afternoon. For the Coastal Flood Warning, from 2 PM this afternoon to 2 AM EDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas will result in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses near the waterfront and shoreline. Water will be 1 to 3 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. && Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour. ...GALE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Northeast winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 40 kt and waves 2 to 4 ft. * WHERE...Rappahannock River from Urbanna to Windmill Point, York River and James River from Jamestown to the James River Bridge. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. ...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM EDT THIS MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Virginia, including the following counties, Isle of Wight, Southampton, Surry and Sussex. * WHEN...Until 900 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 527 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated widespread moderate to heavy rain. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen since 230 AM. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area through 7 AM. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Smithfield, Windsor, Waverly, Wakefield, Claremont, Surry, Suffolk, Isle Of Wight, Sussex, Ivor, Dendron, Elberon, Zuni, Sedley, Scotland, Cabin Point, Homeville, Carrsville, Rescue and Ellis Fork. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of northeast North Carolina, including the following areas, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Eastern Currituck, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Western Currituck and Virginia, including the following areas, Brunswick, Charles City, Chesapeake, Dinwiddie, Greensville, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight, James City, Newport News, Norfolk/Portsmouth, Prince George (including Hopewell and Petersburg), Southampton, Suffolk, Surry, Sussex, Virginia Beach and York. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
