The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... South central Box Elder County in northern Utah... Northern Tooele County in northern Utah... * Until 415 PM MDT. * At 325 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Great Salt Lake South of the Causeway, or 28 miles west of Hill Air Force Base, moving north at 25 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. * Locations impacted include... Great Salt Lake South of the Causeway, Great Salt Lake North of the Causeway, and Hat Island. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. If on or near the Great Salt Lake, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now!
