Special Weather Statement
Issued: 9:04 AM May. 5, 2026 – National Weather Service
...GUSTY WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY WILL LEAD TO AN ELEVATED RISK FOR FIRE SPREAD TUESDAY... The combination of drying fine fuels, southwest wind gusts as high as 25 to 35 mph, and relative humidity values as low as 30 to 40 percent will lead to an elevated risk of fire spread today across Delaware and Sullivan Counties, mainly during the afternoon hours. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.
