* WHAT...West winds to 30 knots and waves 8 to 11 feet.

* WHERE...The nearshore waters of Lake Ontario from Hamlin Beach
to the Saint Lawrence River.

* WHEN...Until 1 PM EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Winds and/or waves will cause hazardous conditions
that could capsize or damage small craft.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller
vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.

Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 6:08 AM Jan. 1, 2026 – National Weather Service
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 1 to
2 feet, with localized amounts of up to 4 feet possible across
Oswego County. Snowfall rates of 3 to 5 inches per hour possible
in the most intense bands.

* WHERE...The Eastern Lake Ontario Region. The greatest additional
snow amounts will focus across Oswego County. Additional snowfall
in Jefferson County will only be across the far southern end of
the county, and in Lewis County only in the far southwest corner
of the county, with minimal amounts elsewhere.

* WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Saturday. The heaviest snowfall will be
tonight through Friday.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult to impossible with near
zero visibility and deep snow cover on roads. If you must travel,
be prepared for severe impacts and the possibility of becoming
stranded.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Widespread accumulating snow will create dangerous travel conditions.

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally
heavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions just
a few miles away. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,
visibility, and road conditions.

Delay all travel. If you must travel, drive with extreme caution.
Take a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire
chains, booster cables, a flashlight, shovel, blankets, and extra
clothing. Also take water, non-perishable food, a first aid kit, and
anything else that would help you survive if you become stranded.
