...SCATTERED STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING... Thunderstorms are now developing across the area and will continue to move slowly north and eastward into the late afternoon and evening hours. Some storms may produce torrential downpours, strong gusty winds and frequent cloud to ground lightning. Isolated to scattered instances of flash flooding could occur where storms stall, back build or train over the same locations. If outdoors remain weather aware and have a plan on what to do if strong to severe thunderstorms strike. ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT... * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.Localized rainfall amounts of 2-3 inches tonight in a few hours. * WHERE...A portion of central New York, including the following areas, Madison, Northern Oneida, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Southern Oneida, Steuben, Tompkins and Yates. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Showers and thunderstorms developing across the area can be slow-moving and lead to heavy rainfall and instances of flash flooding. Rainfall rates can near, or exceed 1 inch per hour at times.
