...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST MONDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow and sleet expected. The snow will mix with and change to sleet late afternoon into the evening. Total snow and sleet accumulations between 8 and 12 inches. Light freezing rain along with a few hundredths of ice may occur late this evening into tonight. Isolated wind gusts around 35 mph possible this afternoon and evening. * WHERE...Portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York. * WHEN...Until 1 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Roads will become snow covered and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Persons should consider delaying travel from Sunday into Monday. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. In New York, Southern Westchester, Bronx, Northwest Suffolk, Northeast Suffolk, Southeast Suffolk, Northern Queens and Northern Nassau Counties. * WHEN...Late Sunday night. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Brief minor flooding of the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. * SHORELINE IMPACTS...3 to 5 ft breaking waves along north to northeast facing shorelines along western Long Island Sound and Gardiners Bay will locally exacerbate flooding of shoreline roads and adjacent properties, with minor beach erosion.
