For the Gale Warning, north winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 40 kt and seas 3 to 7 feet expected on Long Island Sound. * WHERE...Long Island Sound east of Port Jefferson and New Haven, Peconic and Gardiners Bays, and South Shore Bays from Jones Inlet through Shinnecock Bay. * WHEN...For the Small Craft Advisory, until 8 AM EDT Friday. ...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON... ...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THURSDAY TO 9 AM EDT FRIDAY... * WHAT...For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...Southwest Suffolk County. * WHEN...For the High Rip Current Risk, through Friday afternoon. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, during times of high tide Thursday evening and Friday morning. * IMPACTS...Brief minor flooding of the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Life- threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Additional Coastal Flood Advisories, likely needed for Friday PM and Saturday AM high tide cycles. Moderate coastal flooding can also not be ruled out for Friday PM and Saturday AM. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
