Rip Current Statement
Issued: 7:22 PM Jun. 21, 2026 – National Weather Service
...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH MONDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected.

* WHERE...Kings (Brooklyn), Southwest Suffolk, Southern Queens
and Southern Nassau Counties.

* WHEN...From Monday afternoon through Monday evening.

* IMPACTS...Life threatening rip currents are likely for all
people entering the surf zone late in the day. Anyone at the
beaches after about 5 PM should stay out of the surf as
lifeguards go off duty. Rip currents can sweep even the best
swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The rip current risk will be moderate for
much of the day on Monday, then increase to high late in the day
as onshore winds increase to 20 to 25 mph and seas build to 4 to
5 feet. The high risk may continue into part of Tuesday
morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you enter the surf zone, always have a flotation device with
you and swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax
and float, and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in
a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face
the shore and yell or wave for help.
