Flood Watch
Issued: 4:59 PM Sep. 15, 2026 – National Weather Service
...FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...A portion of southwest New Mexico, including the following
areas, Central Grant County/Silver City Area, Southern Gila
Foothills/Mimbres Valley, Southern Gila Region Highlands/Black
Range and Upper Gila River Valley.

* WHEN...Through late Wednesday night.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water
crossings may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Increasing upper level moisture and a series of upper level
disturbances will lead to rounds of thunderstorms capable of
producing torrential downpours. Most of the Gila region has
received 1 to 3 inches of rain in recent days, therefore any
additional heavy rain could lead to flash flooding. Thunderstorms
may be slow to initiate in the higher terrain this afternoon, but
will become more numerous during the evening and late night
hours. Another round or two of storms is expected for Wednesday,
therefore the Flood Watch has been extended into early Thursday
morning.

Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.
