Southeastern Howard County in central Maryland... North central Calvert County in southern Maryland... Southern Baltimore County in northern Maryland... Northern Prince Georges County in central Maryland... * Until 545 PM EDT. * At 441 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Catonsville to Laurel to Fort Totten, moving east at 40 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles. * Locations impacted include... Baltimore, Columbia, Bowie, Severn, Annapolis, College Park, Crofton, Middle River, Greenbelt, Langley Park, Beltsville, Elkridge, Riviera Beach, Largo, Bladensburg, Mayo, Shady Side, Chesapeake Beach, Deale, and Naval Academy. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Wind damage with these storms will occur before any rain or lightning. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. At 406 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 29 nm northwest of Middle River to 30 nm west of Back River to 20 nm north of Key Bridge, moving east at 30 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts in excess of 48 knots and small hail. SOURCE...Observed wind. IMPACT...Boaters could easily be thrown overboard by suddenly higher wind and waves capsizing their vessel. Boats could suffer significant damage in high winds. Locations impacted include... Fort Smallwood State Park. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are expected. Frequent lightning is occurring with these storms.
