For the second Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 112 expected. * WHERE...The Washington and Baltimore metropolitan areas including the District of Columbia and city of Baltimore, northeast, central, and southern Maryland, as well as northern Virginia and the Virginia Piedmont. * WHEN...For the first Extreme Heat Warning, from 10 AM to 8 PM EDT Thursday. For the second Extreme Heat Warning, from 10 AM to 8 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. ...AIR QUALITY ALERT IS IN EFFECT FOR THURSDAY JULY 2 2026... The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert Thursday for the Baltimore City Metro and Annapolis region. A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
