Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 6:02 PM Jan. 31, 2026 – National Weather Service
...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM SUNDAY TO 2 PM EST MONDAY... * WHAT...One to two feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways (10.8 to 12.7 feet Mean Lower Low Water). * WHERE...Eastern Essex MA, Suffolk MA, Eastern Norfolk MA and Eastern Plymouth MA Counties. * WHEN...Multiple high tide cycles Sunday morning into Monday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Shallow pockets of flooding less than one foot deep affects the lowest lying areas along the coast, including Morrissey Boulevard in Boston. Flooding up to one foot deep affects coastal roads on the North Shore from Salem to Gloucester and Newburyport. Rough surf will cause flooding on some coastal roads around the time of high tide due to splashover. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Sub-freezing temperatures and cold road surfaces may allow for some of the storm surge to freeze. This would result in prolonged issues on those vulnerable roadways and also delay drainage. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. && && Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour. Freezing Spray Advisory
Issued: 4:47 PM Jan. 31, 2026 – National Weather Service
...FREEZING SPRAY ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 1 PM EST SUNDAY... ...GALE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM SUNDAY TO 4 AM EST MONDAY... * WHAT...For the Freezing Spray Advisory, moderate accumulation of freezing spray expected. For the Gale Warning, north winds 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 45 kt and seas 7 to 10 feet expected. * WHERE...Massachusetts Bay and Ipswich Bay. * WHEN...For the Freezing Spray Advisory, from 4 AM to 1 PM EST Sunday. For the Gale Warning, from 6 AM Sunday to 4 AM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Operating a vessel in freezing spray is hazardous. Freezing spray may render mechanical and electronic components inoperative. Ice accretion on decks and superstructures may result in some loss of stability. Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners should prepare for ice accumulation on their vessel and consider altering plans to avoid or mitigate these hazardous conditions. During freezing spray conditions, the U.S. Coast Guard advises mariners to check and ensure all life-saving devices remain free of ice. Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure the vessel for hazardous conditions. &&
