The Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center in Sandpoint has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas: NWS Missoula MT - MTZ001 (MTZ001) NWS Spokane WA - ID 017 (Bonner County)... ID 021 (Boundary County)... ID 079 (Shoshone County) * WHAT...An Avalanche Warning is in effect from Monday 4 PM to Tuesday 4 PM. Very dangerous avalanche conditions will develop overnight and last though Tuesday as heavy, wet snowfall transitions to heavy rain along with strong winds. You can very easily trigger avalanches large enough to bury or kill you, and some will release spontaneously. Avoid travel in avalanche terrain during this period. * WHERE...The Selkirk Mountains, West and East Cabinet Mountains, and the Silver Valley-Bitterroot Mountains above 4,000 feet. * WHEN...In effect from Mon 16:00 PST to Tue 16:00 PST. * IMPACTS...A potent atmospheric river characterized by near- historic moisture will introduce a “firehose” of moisture into North Idaho and Northwestern Montana. The rain line will rise to around 7,000 to 7,500 feet overnight Monday and will saturate recent snowfall and overload pre-existing weak snow layers. It will be very likely for backcountry travelers to trigger avalanches and natural avalanches are likely. Avalanches can break wide across terrain features and run long distances to lower elevations. * PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended during this period. Similar avalanche danger may exist at locations outside the coverage area of this or any avalanche center.

...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM PST TUESDAY... * WHAT...Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected. * WHERE...Sandpoint, Northport, Deer Park, Eastport, Athol, Bonners Ferry, Newport, Fruitland, Colville, Priest River, Metaline, Schweitzer Mountain Road, Kettle Falls, Chewelah, Ione, Clark Fork, Flowery Trail Road, Orin-Rice Road, Metaline Falls, Tiger, and Springdale-Hunters Road. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 7 AM PST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Saturated, unfrozen soils may increase the risk of tree damage and power outages.
