Special Weather Statement
Issued: 2:04 AM Mar. 9, 2026 – National Weather Service
...POWERFUL KONA STORM TO IMPACT THE STATE THIS WEEK... A powerful kona storm will begin to impact the state as early as Tuesday for the western end of the state and spread across the state on Wednesday. While flash flooding is a major concern (more details can be found on our Hydrologic Outlook ESFHFO), there is increasing confidence for strong to severe thunderstorms on Wednesday especially for the western half of the state. Damaging winds will likely be the greatest threat with any of the strong thunderstorms, but large hail can't be ruled out either. While details remain uncertain beyond Wednesday, a much stronger wave of thunderstorms and damaging kona winds may be possible Friday into the weekend.
