Flood Watch
Issued: 1:09 AM Jan. 5, 2026 – National Weather Service
* WHAT...The possibility of flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall. * WHERE...All the main Hawaiian islands. * WHEN...Through Monday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Flood prone roads and other low lying areas may be closed due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas may receive more significant flooding and property damage due to rapid runoff. Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainages. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A kona low north of Kauai will move generally south today and Monday, remaining close to the west end of the state. It will then move west and weaken Wednesday into Thursday. Deep moisture within an increasingly unstable environment will remain across all islands. Expect periods of moderate to locally heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms. For Big Island and Maui County, the greatest flood risk remains along southeast facing mountain slopes as southerly flow more efficiently lifts rich moisture up these slopes. Lingering instability over some islands may extend the timing of this Flood Watch into Tuesday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. &&
