The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
The island of Molokai in Maui County

* Until 830 AM HST.

* At 606 AM HST, radar indicated heavy showers and thunderstorms
moving over Molokai, with rain falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches
per hour. A rapid rise in water has been measured at Kawela Gulch.
Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

SOURCE...Radar.

IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are
possible in steep terrain.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
the entire island of Molokai.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.

This warning may need to be extended beyond 830 AM HST if flooding;
persists.;

This Flash Flood Warning replaces the previously issued Flood;
Advisory that was in effect for The island of Molokai in Maui County.;

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and the Big Island.

* WHEN...Through this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of
streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along
with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff.
Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- A kona low, currently north of the islands, has drawn
abundant moisture northward. Rounds of moderate to heavy
rainfall are anticipated. The heaviest rain is expected to
last through tonight.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
