...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 1 PM EST SUNDAY... * WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills ranging from as cold as 15 degrees below in the north Georgia mountains to the single digits above zero in central Georgia. * WHERE...All of north and central Georgia. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST SUNDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. * WHERE...Portions of northeast and east-central Georgia. * WHEN...Until 1 AM EST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Gusty winds could result in areas of blowing snow and poor visibility. Plan on very difficult to impossible travel conditions. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wind chills will range from 10 to 15 above zero today and from the single digits below zero to the single digits above zero early tonight. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.
