...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY
EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated
surf expected. Potential thunderstorms could produce lightning.
Abnormally high tides of 7.0 to 7.5 feet are expected each
evening.

* WHERE...San Luis Obispo County Beaches, Santa Barbara County
Central Coast Beaches, Santa Barbara County Southwestern
Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Ventura County
Beaches, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches.

* WHEN...Through Wednesday evening.

* IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip
currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can
wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats
nearshore. Lightning strikes can harm individuals.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A south to southwest swell will affect the
coastal waters through the week. With abnormally high tides and
south swell, there is the potential for some minor coastal
flooding in low lying areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or
stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly
in such conditions, stay off the rocks.

Seek shelter inside a fully enclosed building or car with metal
roof if lightning is in the area and wait until the lightning has
left the area.

THURSDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures of 95 to 110
away from the coast, and 85 to 95 near the coast possible.

* WHERE...A portion of southwest California.

* WHEN...From Tuesday morning through Thursday evening.

* IMPACTS...There is a high risk for dangerous heat illness for
anyone, especially for the very young, the very old, those without
air conditioning, and those active outdoors.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Monsoonal moisture will add to the discomfort
level next week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
