...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM AKST THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. * WHERE...Downtown Juneau and Douglas, including Thane. * WHEN...Until 6 PM AKST this evening. * IMPACTS...High winds will blow around unsecured objects and may damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A mountain wave is resulting in occasional wind gusts of up to 65 mph occasionally reaching the surface. Wind gusts will gradually weaken Saturday night as the pressure gradient relaxes, but may pick up again on Sunday as another system pushes into the panhandle. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... People are urged to secure vessels and loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. ...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT... * WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 11 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Portions of central southeast Alaska including, Gustavus, Hoonah, Tenakee Springs, Elfin Cove, Pelican, Sitka, Angoon, and Juneau. * WHEN...From late tonight through late Sunday night. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Two rounds of snow are likely this weekend over SE AK, but it's the second round that will impact the central panhandle. Snow will begin late Saturday night with heaviest snow rates possible late Sunday morning into Sunday evening. Moisture availability and a warming mid-level temperatures could limit snowfall totals.
