Information on update: Warning area updated to reflect areas most at risk through the rest of the night. Warning text updated. Warning likelihood increased to reflect increased confidence with 'what to expect' and 'what should I do' statements updated to reflect this change. An area of heavy, thundery rain is expected to become slow moving across parts of eastern England through the early hours of Friday morning before clearing away eastwards in the North Sea after dawn. Some places in the warning area could see frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds in addition to heavy rain. Some places may receive 30-40 mm of rain in a short period, with a chance of 50-60 mm in 3-4 hours in a few places.

Flooding is expected for: Properties in Nelson on and close to Riverside Business Park, Pendle Industrial Estate, Southfield Street, Brook Street, Sagar Street, Holme Street, Leeds Road, Pendle Community Hospital, Riverside Business Centre and Nelson and Colne College 
 
High river levels are expected to cause flooding today. 
 
Flooding is expected on 20 August 2026. 
 
Locations most affected will be properties in Nelson on and close to Riverside Business Park, Pendle Industrial Estate, Southfield Street, Brook Street, Sagar Street, Holme Street, Leeds Road, Pendle Community Hospital, Riverside Business Centre and Nelson and Colne College.
