Yellow Watch - Severe Thunderstorm
Issued: 3:45 PM Aug. 30, 2026 – Environment and Climate Change Canada
A cold front associated with an intensifying low pressure system will combine with an unseasonably warm and unstable atmosphere creating favourable conditions for the development of severe thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms are currently ongoing over the region and will continue to increase in coverage over the area and eventually develop into a line and move eastward toward the Manitoba border later this afternoon.

Thunderstorms will also gradually intensify early this afternoon. The primary hazards with these thunderstorms will be strong wind gusts of 90-100 km/h, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Brief tornadoes are also possible with intense thunderstorms.

The severe weather threat will diminish once the cold front pushes eastward into Manitoba later this evening.

###

Driving conditions may be difficult. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible.

Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility.

Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
