At 639 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from Yaphank to Patchogue to near Sayville to Bay
Shore. Movement was northeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
Islip, Brentwood, Centereach, Medford, Hauppauge, Ronkonkoma, Stony
Brook, Patchogue, Middle Island, Port Jefferson, Wading River, Coram,
Holbrook, Smithtown, and Bay Shore.

* WHAT...For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 6
to 10 feet expected in the surf zone. For the High Rip Current
Risk, dangerous rip currents expected.

* WHERE...Kings (Brooklyn), Southwest Suffolk, Southeast
Suffolk, Southern Queens and Southern Nassau Counties.

* WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, from 6 AM this morning to 9
PM EDT this evening. For the High Rip Current Risk, from 6 AM
EDT this morning through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
localized beach erosion. Life-threatening rip currents are
likely for all people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting
the beaches should stay out of the surf. Rip currents can
sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Highest surf along the ocean beaches of Suffolk
County. Moderate to high rip current expected on Wednesday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to
dangerous surf conditions.

If you enter the surf zone, always have a flotation device with
you and swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax
