Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Scattered heavy downpours and thunderstorms will produce rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour into the overnight. This will present a threat for scattered instances of urban, poor drainage, and quick responding small river and stream flash flooding, particularly over areas that saw heavy rain this afternoon. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.75 to 1.5 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... At 1029 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Orange to Coney Island. Movement was northeast at 30 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Strong thunderstorms will be near... Newark and Jersey City around 1035 PM EDT. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 946 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen from earlier showers and thunderstorms. - Additional rainfall amounts of around 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area.
