...EXTREME HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM EDT FRIDAY... * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 111 expected. * WHERE...Portions of southwest and western Maine and central, northern, and southern New Hampshire. * WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Overnight low temperatures will only fall into the 70s, resulting in accumulated heat stress. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. &&

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services is predicting unhealthy air quality for sensitive individuals in the above- mentioned counties. Sensitive individuals include children and older adults; anyone with lung disease such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis; and people who are active outdoors. Even healthy individuals may experience mild health effects and should consider limiting strenuous or prolonged outdoor activities.
