Issued: 12:11 AM Jun. 7, 2026 – National Weather Service
...INCREASED FIRE DANGER SUNDAY ACROSS NORTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA... Dry, hot, and breezy conditions are expected Sunday. The ongoing drought has led to abnormally dry dead surface fuels across the region. Min RH values of 25 to 35%, wind gusts to around 20 mph, and afternoon high temperatures in the low to mid 90s ahead of a cold front will lead to increased fire danger from mid morning through early evening Sunday. Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential ignition source...including machinery... cigarettes...and matches. Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly.
