...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CDT THIS MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...In Minnesota, St. Louis County. * WHEN...Until 900 AM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 456 AM CDT Tuesday, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of up to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Ely, Lake Vermilion, Mountain Iron, Cook, Tower, Meadow Brook, Gheen, Soudan Underground Mine State Park, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Near Trout Lake, Bear Head Lake State Park, Robinson, Burntside Lake, Pelican Lake, McCarthy Beach State Park, Birch Lake, White Iron Lake, Fall Lake, western Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Perch Lake. - Flood safety information can be found at www.weather.gov/safety/flood. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In northeast Minnesota, St. Louis County. * WHEN...Until 815 AM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 312 AM CDT Tuesday, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause small stream flooding. Between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... ...AIR QUALITY ALERT NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM CDT TUESDAY... * WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category. * WHERE...Northeast Minnesota. * WHEN...Until 11 PM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, may experience health effects. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light winds will allow existing wildfire smoke across northern Minnesota to linger into this evening and overnight. Concentrations are expected to be highest along and near the shores of Lake Superior. An additional round of heavy surface smoke from wildfires across southern Canada is expected to transport into northern Minnesota on Tuesday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. The general public should limit prolonged or heavy exertion. Reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning devices.
