...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 145 AM EDT WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of northern Indiana, including the following county, Jay. * WHEN...Until 145 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1040 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... At 1034 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Montpelier, or 7 miles northeast of Hartford City, moving east at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Portland, Berne, Montpelier, Geneva, Pennville, Center, Nottingham, Bryant, Dillman, Mill Grove, Petroleum, College Corner, Liber, Keystone, Blaine, Linn Grove, Domestic, Fiat, Balbec, and Trenton. ...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 8 PM EDT WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Heat index values up to 103 expected. * WHERE...Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio. * WHEN...From noon to 8 PM EDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
