...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING FOR LIGHTNING... The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a Fire Weather Watch for lightning, which is in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday evening. * AFFECTED AREA...White Mountains, Tanana Valley, Chena River Valley, Fortymile Country, and Eastern Delta Junction. * TIMING...From Saturday morning through Sunday evening. * THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE INDEX...Scattered. * WINDS...Near thunderstorms, gusts could reach as high as 40 mph. * HUMIDITY...As low as 30 percent. * TEMPERATURES...Highs in the low 80s. Lows in the low 50s. * IMPACTS...Critical fire weather conditions are possible this weekend due to a combination of thunderstorm activity, temperatures reaching into the low 80s, relative humidities near 30 percent, and gusty winds. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Fire Weather Watch means that weather conditions could lead to the potential for a Red Flag event in the near future. This watch will remain in effect until it is upgraded to a Red Flag Warning or that it is determined that the Red Flag event will not develop. ...Hot Temperatures in the Interior This Weekend... On Friday through Sunday, a majority of the Central and Eastern Interior will see multiple days of highs near/above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Take caution while participating in outdoor activities planned for the solstice/holiday weekend. Stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activities in the afternoon when temperatures are highest.
