Here's a sign of the change of seasons. Rain won't just be in the form of a few monsoon thundershowers. Rather, it will be a soaking for California, the first widespread one since spring.

A small plane crashed onto the median of Interstate 195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, erupting into flames and killing two people. The fiery wreck unfolded as a powerful nor’easter swept through the region, battering the area with heavy rain and wind up to 40 miles per hour.

A strong nor’easter is sweeping from the Carolinas up through New England, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds and rising floodwaters. In New York and New Jersey, fallen trees, swamped roads and power outages have led residents to shelter under states of emergency.

The nor'easter remained a threat Monday after causing flooding from the Carolinas to New England over the weekend.
