Tropical Storm Lala is targeting Hawaii with winds, coastal flooding and heavy rain this weekend.

The National Hurricane Center is watching for the fourth tropical storm of the season this week. Dolly is expected to form in the tropical Atlantic soon.

Fueled in part by El Niño, July 2026 tied an all-time record that has stood since the mid-19th century. The oceans, western Europe, and America were also record warm.

When severe thunderstorms team up in the summer, they can produce widespread wind damage and power outages for hundreds of miles.

Tropical storms and hurricanes can still strengthen when atmospheric conditions are right, even during strong El Niños.
