A clipper will bring another round of quick-hitting snow to the Northeast. Snow will develop across western New York Tuesday morning and then expand east reaching the I-95 corridor near Boston just in time for the Tuesday evening commute. A widespread swath of 1-3 inches looks likely for many, including Boston, with higher totals possible across Upstate New York and the higher elevations. With temperatures stubbornly remaining below freezing for long stretches, New York City has turned to the Trecan Combustion 60-PD Snowmelter, known on the streets as the “hot tub.” These orange behemoths can melt 120 tons of snow an hour. Javier Lojan, acting sanitation commissioner, told The Weather Channel’s Stephanie Abrams the city has 13 of the machines operating around the city’s five boroughs. Lojan said it may take another couple of weeks before all the piles of snow are cleared.

Staying upright on an icy path is apparently just as hard for birds as it is for people. Some chickens and a goose couldn’t get a grip as they tried to flap their way across a slippery surface in a village in Guizho Province, China. Their fluttering fiasco is pretty funny.

Old Man Winter is loosening his grip as millions will see temperatures well above average this week. Make those outdoor plans now as highs should reach the 70s in places like Nashville, Atlanta and Dallas on Tuesday. A cold front will knock temperatures down a bit Wednesday across the Tennessee Valley and Southeast, but temperatures will still be well above average.
