Massive amounts of ash spewed from the Mayon volcano in the Philippines, blanketing more than 87 villages across three towns over the weekend. The 8,000-foot volcano is the most active of two dozen volcanoes in the Philippines, and there have been mild eruptions since January.

The State Climate Extremes Committee in Texas has officially determined that a massive hailstone from June, 2024, is the largest hailstone on record for the state. After detailed analysis of photos of the hailstone with various items for scale (including an energy drink can and a work glove), experts determined that the monster hailstone measured 7.1 inches in diameter at its widest.
