Another Alberta clipper system will bring snow from the northern tier into the Midwest and Northeast this weekend. Major cities along the Interstate 95 corridor, like New York City and Philadelphia, could see their first measurable snow of the season. Widespread snow totals of 1-3 inches are expected with totals up to 8 inches possible in some locations. Check out the timing here.

The heaviest rain will shift north into Canada Friday and Saturday, so expect rain to ease across the state of Washington. However, rivers are still running high, so it will take another day or two for water levels to come down. Unfortunately, more rain will move back into the Pacific Northwest on Sunday. NASA scientists are working to regain contact with a spacecraft that has orbited Mars for more than a decade. The space agency lost contact with the MAVEN in early December. The orbiter not only explores the upper atmosphere of the red planet, but it’s also a communications relay for the two NASA rovers on Mars. Most recently, it captured an image of the comet 3I/ATLAS.
