oakland, CA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Yikes! I had no idea this was here, though I have no idea how I could have missed it. I was surveying property damage on our house, and walked up a different way to the patio and...there she was. Or he. Or...well whatever it is, it scared the bejabbers out of me the first time I saw it. So naturally I had to run for the camera.

Hjeh... funnier would've been to tie a string of cans to his tailpipe, axle, etc., a la "Just Married!". Could just imagine the look on his face the first time he'd go after a speeder... :D

Or do the bit from "American Graffiti". :D :D :D

Is it actually translucent, or is it just the color and/or the way the light's hitting it? Looks almost as if made of jade or at least colored glass.

"Creepy" or not (and yeah, it kind of reminds of the gril from "The Ring" :D ), but I'd keep it around and not toss it or anything.

Chrisathemum, I'll find out where it came from first! :^) I'm loathe to just sell things that show up mysteriously, even if my first encounter is a little rocky!

Ciabo, you and I have much in common :^) As a matter of fact, when I was younger and foolish (and bored), I would sneak out to the local cop's speed trap, sneak up on his car, and glue spoons to his rear bumper. I got the thing well festooned on a couple of occasions. There's nothing so intimidating as a cop speeding around with spoons all over his back bumper.

I swear I had nothing to do with your car, though. Really. Your spoons are a Message. I'm sure of it.

Okay, now *this* is freaky... No, not the statue (well, yeah, kinda), but something else, namely, mention of Orson Scott Card.

Honestly, I never *heard* of him before yesterday, when I was reading up on "Avatar", and OSC was mentioned as an influence on parts of the movie and on James Cameron. And now, Kathy mentions OSC right here.

This morning, I go the "wrong" way around my car to get in, ie, circle around it from the front, vs from the back as I usually do, and I see a spoon right near my front tire. Yeah, a plain ol' regular spoon, not styrene, but metal. On my way home, right next to my cow-orker's car is... a spoon! And yeah, a real honest-to-B'harni *metal* spoon.

My life's *always* been punctuated with weird coincidences, but this two-fer is, well, *weird*.

Trust in the Weird Statue. *Something's* up...

I bet if you offer it for sale, you'll find some takers. (Ever read the book HOMEBODY by Orson Scott Card? Now THERE'S a spooky renovation project, LOL!)

What scared me is that I've been through this area many times now, just not from that approach, and I don't remember seeing this statue. That, and in real life, the eyes are strange. One eye has a dark circle around it, like a black eye, and the other is like an old fish eye, white and staring. When you come upon it unawares, as I did, expecting nothing there, it's startling.

Where did it come from? :^) Finding out will be fun!
