Caption: The only rose I can get to survive my frigid winters. I don't know the cultivar; I dug this rose from my mother's garden many years ago. As a new bride, she dug it from an abandoned homestead of folks who had emigrated from Germany to Chicago, then to northern Minnesota around 1900. It has survived my winters down to -77 degrees... It is my treasure, my reminder of my mother, as resilient and beautiful as she was. Happy Mothers Day Mom!

About katy99780

I've lived in Alaska since 1969. I love this wild land. The extremes of the far north shape and affect every living thing. Extremes of weather, elevation, daylight hours, isolation, flora and fauna, nothing in Nature is insignificant.I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station, uploading to Wunderground, (Turks on the Tundra) the National Weather Service, the Citizen Weather Observation Program and MADIS (Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System).
