The monkey exhibit is my favorite place to go when I visit the zoo. What a great photo of this beautiful guy/gal, Durward. Love their expressive, almost humanlike faces!

Kathy, I found the 'rest of the story' to your poem. Very cute!

Evolution - The Monkey's Viewpoint

Three monkeys sat in a cocoanut tree
Discussing things as they're said to be.
Said one to the others, "Now listen, you two,
There's a certain rumor that can't be true.
That man descended from our noble race-
The very idea! It's a dire disgrace.

No monkey ever deserted his wife,
Starved her babies and ruined her life,
And you've never known a mother monk
To leave her babies with others to bunk,
Or pass them on from one to another
'Til they hardly know who is their mother.

And another thing! You will never see. . .
A monk build a fence 'round a cocoanut tree
And let the cocoanuts go to waste,
Forbidding all other monks to taste.
Why, if I put a fence around the tree,
Starvation would force you to steal from me.

Here's another thing a monk won't do. . .
Go out at night and get on a stew,
Or use a gun or club or knife
To take some other monkey's life,
Yes, Man descended, the ornery cuss. . .
But brother he didn't descend from us!"

Thanks Approvers for the A/C recognition! I was always told when tracing your family tree, you may turn over something you can't cover back up! He is cute though! Thanks for the comments and enjoying a little fun with me!

And if we had no sinful sense, and no sense of sin, the kingdom of heaven it would be! Beautiful shot of a very exquisite creature!

"Man may have descended, the ornery cuss,
But he certainly didn't descend from us!"
Last two lines of a poem written from the monkey's point of view, denying evolution after describing the sins and foibles of mankind, of which monkeys are free. Wish I could remember the rest of the poem, the title, or the author! Neat shot, Durward!

Update: Congratulations on this new AC!

Of everything in our wonderful San Diego Zoo, these monkeys are my favorites. We're members, so sometimes we spend our entire visit with the monkeys and a walk-through aviary.

About AUphoto

AUphoto

As the son of a farmer in southern Alabama, I was raised with the land. I try to capture the beauty of the outdoors, the circle of life, wildlife and birds but also love to travel ocassionally and see what I can capture through the lens. I am married to dixiedaughter and we can often be seen in the same place with cameras in hand. I am amazed how two differnet people can capture the same scene in different fashion. We love the interaction of this site and always appreciate your comments. Thanks for sharing our world and letting us share in yours!
