What truly exquisite architecture, Wilma and a fantastic series. Beautiful capture of this gem with such lovely composition to hightlight the grounds, as well. I would love to visit your gorgeous part of the world some day. In the meantime thanks for sharing it's charm and history with us. 10!

Thanks for the comments, Sharon, and MavricaMalden. I'm just quoting from the literature. These homes were built in the mid 1800s, and have not been allowed to change one iota since being placed on the Historic Register. On top of that, as an Association, they have rules which must be adhered to, as the Association owns the land, and only the buildings can be individually owned. Perhaps that is what is meant by the claim of "most perfectly preserved." Of course, there is no fast food restaurant, no one may ride a bike, skateboard, etc.

In the 1870s, President Ulysses Grant was a guest at the home pictured in this image. He was supposed to be staying at another home, but he wandered outside of the campground, and didn't make it home for the 10:00 curfew. Since the man of this house also enjoyed wandering a bit......they made it back to this home together.

Are you sure about your statement of it being the most architechtial place in the world. I know that Ferndale, California is known as the Victorian Village. They will not even allow a fast food restaraunt in the town. It's a really neat place to visit. Most of the homes there are quite similar to what you have posted. I love these Victorian cottages.
