Kalamata, Greece

Caption: This evening a member very kindly commented on a picture, which I uploaded in February, of a hound suffering from advanced Leishmaniasis and that had been deserted near to our house, and that I had to have put down. This comment has encouraged me to upload this photograph of another deserted dog which we am feeding at the moment. We really believed that Meli, which is what we have called her, was close to death, from malnutrition. However we have fed her for three weeks and she has made a remarkable recovery. She no longer looks like a skeleton covered with a cheap rug anymore but just like a cheap rug with a little flesh on it. It is so nice to have a success occasionally. The next task will be to try to find a home for her. We already have three dogs, ranging from a rottweiller to a miniature poodle, so we can't take her in ourselves. What I need is a volunteer in Greece to give her a home.

About Granddad

We are English, (except our dogs, who are definitely very Greek, having been abandoned strays who took us in out of the kindness of their hearts). We retired to Greece in 2003 to escape the phoney political correctness endemic throughout the Anglo-Saxon world and to mix with some real people again. We live in the Exo-Mani in the extreme South of the Peloponnesus, where the sea and countryside are beautiful and the weather is also less political (i.e. they don't tax sunshine yet). The site provides an opportunity for us to bore the whole world with our snapshots and for which we are duly grateful.
