Caption: Found this Common Mullen just starting its growth under a well weathered piece of downed tree. Oh, there's no category for this shot. Oh, well.

Go ahead, make my day. I just love all those
nice things you're saying.

I used up copious quantities of pixels in the
fog. Some in B/W using different settings;
Standard B/W, Dynamic B/W and Film Grain.

The film grain is used on this shot. It's
good for contrast, but it's not kidding
about the grain. Whoa! I'm not sure I will
use it again, unless it's on something
similar to this.

The line-up of trees I took with the Dynamic
B/W setting.

Then I cheated and used a color shot converted
to B/W for the tree and horses.

At least I learned a little more about shooting
B/W with digital.

Appreciate all your very kind notes.

Category: Trees, maybe. But, yes, what else - "portrait"?
I love this because of the soft, alive mullein and the dry wood.

We do need some more categories; I suggest "vegetation" for plants that are neither trees nor flowers. Nice B$W series, Julia; congrats on the series AC!

About Doesiedoats

I found and joined Weather Underground in September of 2007. Since then I have participated in the photography group with a great deal of pleasure, friendship, learning and a means of seeing the rest of the world.I am not only saddened, but quite upset at the announced closure of this part of Weather Underground.I hope that other members of the community will join us on FaceBook and keep in touch.I’m a native Oregonian, born in Tillamook and reared in the greater Portland area. After working in the Bay Area in the semi-conductor industry as a Human Resources Representative, my husband and I retired in 1999, returned to Southern Oregon and settled in the Williams area. Photography interests started early on with a Kodak Box camera and later a Kodak 616 given to me by my father, a semi-professional photographer. After many years of film cameras, the advent of digital photography has expanded my interest in the hobby. My camera is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100. The Pacifica Gardens property has become the preferred subject of my photography because of its natural beauty. I have captured all four seasons over the past twelve years. I’m pleased to be able to share some of those photos with my WU friends. Please visit my web site via the link below.************************************************
