...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM MDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall. * WHERE...Portions of south central Montana, including the following areas, Bighorn Canyon, Pryor/Northern Bighorn Mountains and Southern Big Horn and north central Wyoming, including the following areas, Northeast Bighorn Mountains and Sheridan Foothills. * WHEN...Until 6 PM MDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Flooding of creeks and streams. Rising water levels on rivers and increased flows. Areas and roads near water ways may experience minor flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Many smaller creeks across the area are reported to be running near bank full. ...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM MDT TUESDAY... * WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Sheridan County. * WHEN...Until 615 AM MDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...River or stream flows are elevated and near bankfull in many areas. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas is expected to occur with additional rainfall. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1151 AM MDT, Emergency Management and Public Reports indicate the Smith Creek near Dayton, Little Goose Creek near Sheridan, and Piney Creek near Story are bankfull. The Tongue River near Dayton is also near Bankfull as of 9am this morning. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.3 to 0.5 inches are expected over the area through this evening. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that may experience minor flooding include... Sheridan, Ranchester, Dayton, Big Horn, Story, Parkman and Banner. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
