...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by prior excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of southern West Virginia, including the following county, McDowell. * WHEN...Until 800 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 402 PM EDT, emergency management reported high water continuing to impact some roadways across portions of the warned area. Flooding is already occurring. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Welch, Gary, War, Northfork, Davy, Bradshaw, Iaeger, Keystone, Kimball, Coalwood, Avondale, Jolo, Cucumber, Elbert and Panther. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. ...Gusty Winds This Afternoon and Evening... Winds have remained gusty this afternoon and will continue into this evening before gradually diminishing near sunset. Sustained west-southwest winds between 15 and 25 mph are expected, with gusts of 35 to 45 mph, locally higher in spots. These gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Use extra caution when driving this afternoon, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.
