...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE TONIGHT... * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...In Minnesota, Pine, South Itasca, Cook, Lake, Carlton, St. Louis and Aitkin Counties and Wisconsin, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas and Washburn Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation, the St. Croix Band in Burnett County, the Red Cliff Band, the Fond du Lac Band, the Mille Lacs Band, Big Sandy Lake, East Lake, Hinckley and, Lena Lake areas and the Bois Forte Band, Nett Lake and, Lake Vermilion areas. Other locations including the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and Voyageurs National Park. The entire Boundary Waters is also included. * WHEN...From this afternoon through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Several rounds of thunderstorms are possible today. While the storms should be progressive, they should produce torrential rainfall. In Wisconsin, Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Sawyer, and Washburn Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Bad River Reservation, the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, the St. Croix Band in Burnett County, the Red Cliff Band and the Mille Lacs Band, Hinckley and, Lena Lake areas. Other locations including Madeline Island and the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. * WHEN...From noon today to 9 PM CDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
