...FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL EARLY THURSDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Skokomish River at Potlatch. * WHEN...Until early Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...At 16.5 feet, the Skokomish River will cause widespread flooding of pasture lands, with water flowing quickly over West Bourgault Road and Skokomish Valley Road. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 4:30 AM PST Saturday the stage was 16.8 feet. - Flood stage is 16.5 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 4:30 AM PST Saturday was 17.1 feet. - Forecast...The river will continue to fall through the day Saturday before reaching its lowest point at 16.7 ft Saturday night. ...HEAVY RAINFALL THIS WEEK HAS LED TO AN INCREASED THREAT OF LANDSLIDES IN WESTERN WASHINGTON... Significant rainfall over the past week has increased soil moisture to high levels across western Washington. This significant rain will continue to put extra pressure on soil instability, leading to an increased threat of landslides and debris flows, especially from recent burned areas, with additional rainfall acting as a trigger. Numerous landslides have already occurred in Whatcom, Skagit, King Counties and others. More landslides continue to be possible. Areas most susceptible to landslides debris flows under these conditions are steep coastal bluffs, other steep hillsides or road cuts, and recent burned areas. A diminishing threat of landslides and debris flows will continue for several days after the rain ends.
