...STRONGER SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TODAY WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LOCALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND/OR A BRIEF TORNADO... A cool and unstable airmass over northwest Oregon and southwest Washington today will result in scattered showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday evening. Stronger showers and thunderstorms will have the potential to produce locally damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and/or a funnel cloud or brief tornado. If you see a funnel cloud or a tornado, or if a Tornado Warning or a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued for your area, you should go to an interior room on the lowest floor of your residence. In addition, you should take actions to protect your head, such as getting under a sturdy table. If you are outdoors and cannot get to shelter, get in a ditch or culvert and cover your head. Never go under an overpass during high winds or a tornado.

For the second Coastal Flood Advisory, from 10 AM to 3 PM PST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding during high tides is expected in the low lying areas near bays, sloughs, and the lower reaches of the coastal rivers. Minor beach erosion may damage coastal properties and buildings. Higher than normal water run- up is expected on beaches and low- lying shoreline. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Sneaker waves are also possible due to high waves and long period energetic periods. Caution should be used when in or near the water. Always keep an eye on the waves, and be especially watchful of children and pets. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Coastal Flood Advisory means that tidal overflow flooding is expected. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water, and take appropriate action to protect life and property. A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches, producing rip currents, sneaker waves and beach erosion. Stay well back from the water's edge and be alert for exceptionally high waves.
