...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM SUNDAY TO 7 PM EST MONDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches with up to 24 inches in the eastern Catskills, Berkshires and southern Greens. * WHERE...All of eastern New York and western New England. * WHEN...From 7 AM Sunday to 7 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult due snow covered roads and reduced visibilities. The hazardous conditions will likely impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An impactful long-duration winter storm is expected Sunday into Monday. Snowfall rates one to two inches per hour at times, especially Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Light snow will linger through much of the day on Monday before ending by Monday night. The highest snowfall amounts are expected across the eastern Catskills, Mid Hudson Valley, Berkshires and southern Greens. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... ...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 to 35 below expected. Northwest wind gusts 30 to 40 mph this morning over the Berkshires. * WHERE...In eastern New York, the southern Adirondacks, the western Mohawk Valley, and the northern Taconics in eastern Rensselaer County. In Massachusetts, Berkshire County. In southern Vermont, Bennington and Windham Counties. * WHEN...Until 1 PM EST this afternoon. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Using non-approved heating devices in your home can lead to fires and carbon monoxide poisoning. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The coldest wind chills are expected in the Adirondack Mountains in New York, and the southern Green Mountains in Vermont.
