...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 415 PM EDT THIS
AFTERNOON FOR NORTHWESTERN NORTHAMPTON, BRUNSWICK, GREENSVILLE,
SOUTHWESTERN SOUTHAMPTON AND SOUTHWESTERN SUSSEX COUNTIES AND THE
CITY OF EMPORIA...

At 333 PM EDT, local law enforcement reported water rushing over
North Carolina highway 46 west of Gaston. Between 1.5 and 2 inches
of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches
are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Law enforcement reported.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Emporia, Lawrenceville, Courtland, Garysburg, Brodnax, Dahlia,
Purdy, Brunswick, Gaston, Jarratt, Seaboard, Radium, Green Plain,
Barley, Claresville, Gasburg, Ebony, Capron, Emporia Reservoir and
Durand.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...Portions of south central and southeast Virginia,
including the following counties, in south central Virginia,
Prince George. In southeast Virginia, Southampton, Surry and
Sussex.

* WHEN...Until 800 PM EDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is occurring. Some roads remain closed
due to flooding.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 139 PM EDT, Flooding continues across the warned area.
Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen since early this
morning.
- Flooding impacts will continue through this afternoon.
Additional storms that develop this afternoon may lead to new
flooding, in which flash flood warnings would be issued.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Waverly, Wakefield, Claremont, Sussex, Ivor, Dendron, Stony
Creek, Homeville, Sedley, Elberon, Cabin Point, Manry,

areas, Dorchester and Wicomico and Virginia, including the
following areas, Amelia, Brunswick, Caroline, Charles City,
Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Eastern Chesterfield (Including Col.
Heights), Eastern Essex, Eastern Hanover, Eastern Henrico, Eastern
King William, Eastern King and Queen, Eastern Louisa, Fluvanna,
Goochland, Greensville, Lancaster, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, New
Kent, Northumberland, Nottoway, Powhatan, Prince Edward, Prince
George (including Hopewell and Petersburg), Richmond, Sussex,
Western Chesterfield, Western Essex, Western Hanover, Western
Henrico (Including the City of Richmond), Western King William,
Western King and Queen, Western Louisa and Westmoreland.

* WHEN...Through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur
in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be
flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- 2 to 4 inches of rainfall with localized higher amounts has
fallen across portions of the watch area over the past 24
hours. Additional showers and storms are possible this
afternoon and evening, which could produce an additional 2-3"
of rain and result in further instances of flash-flooding.
