...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Virginia, including the following counties, Isle of Wight and Surry. * WHEN...Until 600 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 405 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Smithfield, Surry, Scotland, Elberon, Poolesville, Bacons Castle, Delk Crossroads, Beachland, Alliance, Moonlight, Chippokes State Park, Pons, Rushmere, Runnymede, Comet, Hog Island Game Reserve, Bethel Church, Lawson and Mogarts Beach. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... In eastern Virginia, Mathews and Middlesex. In south central Virginia, Prince George (including Hopewell and Petersburg). In southeast Virginia, Chesapeake, Gloucester, Greensville, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight, James City, Newport News, Norfolk/Portsmouth, Southampton, Suffolk, Surry, Sussex, Virginia Beach and York. * WHEN...Until midnight EDT tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Widespread showers and embedded storms will continue to spread across the area through this afternoon.
