...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EDT EARLY THIS MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Portions of northeast North Carolina, including the following counties, Camden, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans and southeast Virginia, including the following independent cities, City of Chesapeake, City of Suffolk and City of Virginia Beach. * WHEN...Until 400 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1253 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... The Central City of Suffolk in southeastern Virginia... The City of Virginia Beach in southeastern Virginia... * Until 300 AM EDT. * At 1250 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen since early Thursday evening. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.
